The University of California Board of Regents has approved a major student housing expansion at UC Santa Cruz, adding nearly 1,300 beds for upper-division students. - The project, Heller Student Housing South, is the first phase of a two-part redevelopment on a 13-acre site currently housing Family Student Housing.
- New units will include singles, triple studios, two- and four-bedroom apartments, and co-living suites, along with a market, multi-purpose space, and laundry facilities. - The project is fully electric, aims for LEED Gold certification, and includes solar panels and stormwater capture for non-potable uses.
- A second phase on the north end will add up to 1,650 beds, bringing the total to 2,940 beds on the Heller site. The new housing is expected to open for fall 2029, supporting the campus's goal to increase student housing by 40% within the decade.
