The Turkey Fire, which ignited Wednesday afternoon in the Wallace area of Calaveras County, has been fully contained at 48 acres, according to the Calaveras Consolidated Fire Department. The blaze broke out near the intersection of Pattison Road and Bandy Lane, close to the trout pond at Lake Camanche.
Firefighters reported that both a structure and a vehicle were destroyed in the incident.
A total of 133 firefighters are assigned to the fire, with crews remaining on scene Thursday to extinguish hot spots, reinforce control lines, and assess the overall damage. Multiple agencies are cooperating in the response, including the East Bay Municipal Utility District, Calaveras Consolidated Fire, Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, PG&E, San Andreas Fire, Angels City Fire, Altaville Melones Fire, Central Fire, Murphys Fire, and Clements Fire.
The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office issued evacuation orders for nearby areas on Wednesday, but all orders have since been lifted, allowing residents to return to their homes. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and authorities have not yet released further details about the origin or any potential charges.
Residents in the Clements and Wallace areas are advised to remain cautious as fire crews continue their mop-up operations. The quick response and coordination among agencies helped prevent the fire from spreading further, sparing additional structures and natural areas from damage.
