A Shingletown man was taken into custody on Thursday following an investigation that uncovered evidence of child sexual abuse material and animal cruelty, according to the Shasta County Sheriff's Office. The suspect, identified as 42-year-old Robert James Miller, was arrested at his residence on the 4300 block of Plateau Road without incident.
Detectives executed a search warrant at the home early Thursday morning, seizing multiple electronic devices and other evidence. The investigation began after a tip was received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) regarding the online sharing of illicit images.
During the search, authorities also discovered evidence of animal cruelty involving several dogs and cats on the property. The animals were seized and are now under the care of Haven Humane Society.
Miller faces multiple felony charges, including possession and distribution of child pornography and felony animal cruelty. He is being held at the Shasta County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.
His arraignment is scheduled for Monday. Sheriff's officials stated that the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
Neighbors expressed shock at the arrest, describing Miller as a quiet individual who kept to himself. The case highlights the importance of community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement in protecting vulnerable populations, both human and animal.
