SFPD Officer and Robbery Suspect Shot in Bayview Gunfight

A San Francisco police officer and a robbery suspect were both shot and left with life-threatening wounds after a vehicle pursuit and exchange of gunfire late Sunday night in the Bayview neighborhood. The incident began when officers attempted an intervention at Mission and First streets, prompting the driver and a passenger of a vehicle to flee.

The suspect's vehicle became disabled near Bayshore Boulevard and Jerrold Avenue. One or both occupants then allegedly shot at officers, striking one officer multiple times.

Police returned fire, hitting the passenger. The driver fled on foot but was arrested nearby.

Officers recovered two firearms. ShotSpotter data reviewed by Mission Local recorded 19 shots from high-capacity weapons at approximately 10:45 p.m.

Both the passenger and the officer were transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The San Francisco Police Officers Association reported Monday morning that the officer is expected to survive and is currently in surgery.

The investigation involves the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, the SFPD Investigative Services Division, the SFPD Internal Affairs Division, and the Department of Police Accountability.
