The San Francisco Police Department has concluded its virtual town hall regarding the officer-involved shooting that occurred on May 31, 2026, in the Bayview District. The incident began when officers were alerted about a robbery suspect vehicle entering San Francisco from the Bay Bridge.
At approximately 10:29 p.m., officers located the vehicle, which had two occupants, traveling on 5th Street near Folsom Street. They attempted to conduct a vehicle stop near Mission and First Streets, but the suspect driver fled, initiating a pursuit through city streets.
The vehicle eventually became disabled in the area of Bayshore Boulevard and Jerrold Avenue. When officers approached, the driver opened fire, striking one officer multiple times.
During the exchange, an officer-involved shooting occurred, and the passenger of the suspect vehicle sustained injuries. Both the injured officer and the injured suspect were quickly transported to a local hospital, where they are being treated for life-threatening injuries.
The suspect driver fled on foot but was later located and taken into custody without incident near Bayshore Boulevard and Costa Street. Two firearms were recovered at the scene.
The incident is under investigation by the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, the SFPD Investigative Services Division, the SFPD Internal Affairs Division, and the Department of Police Accountability.
