San Mateo Couple Drowns in Kings Canyon National Park

A couple from San Mateo, California, drowned on May 25 at Roaring River Falls in Kings Canyon National Park, located in the Sierra Nevada mountain range. The incident occurred when the two individuals, whose names have not been released pending notification of next of kin, were swept away by the strong currents of the waterfall.

Park rangers and emergency responders recovered their bodies later that day. The investigation into the exact circumstances of the drowning is ongoing, but officials have reminded visitors to exercise extreme caution near fast-moving water, especially during the spring snowmelt season when rivers and waterfalls are particularly dangerous.
