San Luis Obispo Clean-Up Week: Schedule Free Pickup and Extra Trash Collection

San Luis Obispo, events, waste disposal, community, environment

San Luis Obispo's annual Clean-Up Week is scheduled for June 22-26, offering residents a convenient opportunity to dispose of extra waste and bulky items that cannot be donated, sold, reused, or placed in regular trash bins. The program is designed to help households manage large or excess items responsibly.

To participate, residents must schedule a free bulky item pickup by calling San Luis Garbage at (805) 543-0875 no later than Friday, June 19, 2026. For single-family homes, one free pickup is available; multi-family complexes can schedule up to four free pickups per complex.

Additional pickups beyond the free allowance are offered at 50% off the regular rate.

During Clean-Up Week, single-family homeowners can also set out up to six additional 32-gallon trash bags next to their collection containers on their designated collection day at no cost. This allows for disposal of extra household waste that would not normally fit in the regular bin.

Hazardous materials must not be placed in trash, recycling, or organics containers. Items containing hazardous waste can be disposed of for free at the Cold Canyon Household Hazardous Waste Facility.

Residents should check the city's website for additional disposal options.

All items collected during Clean-Up Week are sent to a landfill, so the program is intended for items that cannot be reused, repaired, donated, or sold. Before scheduling a pickup, the city encourages residents to consider giving usable items a second life by donating them to local organizations.

Donation locations can be found on the city's website.

It is illegal to place items on the curb or roadway without scheduling a bulky item pickup, and doing so may result in a citation. For more information or to schedule a pickup, call San Luis Garbage at (805) 543-0875 or visit the city's website.
