A Sacramento man has been arrested on arson charges after a wildfire broke out near the community of Shingletown, located in Shasta County. The suspect, whose identity has not been released pending formal charges, was taken into custody by law enforcement officers on June 16, 2026, following an investigation by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) and the Shasta County Sheriff's Office.
The fire, which ignited earlier this week, threatened several structures and prompted evacuations in the rural area approximately 20 miles east of Redding. Firefighters managed to contain the blaze after it burned an estimated 150 acres of grass and woodland.
No injuries were reported, and no homes were destroyed, but the incident caused significant concern among local residents.
Authorities stated that the arrest was made possible through tips from the public and rapid coordination between multiple agencies. The suspect is currently being held at the Shasta County Jail on suspicion of arson to forest land.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
CAL FIRE reminds the public that arson is a serious crime with severe penalties, especially during the peak fire season. The agency continues to monitor dry conditions across the state, which have elevated the risk of wildfires.
