A fast-moving brush fire in the Ventura County city of Ojai prompted mandatory evacuations and the closure of several major roadways on Wednesday afternoon. The blaze, which ignited near the 200 block of East Ojai Avenue, quickly spread due to gusty winds and dry conditions, threatening homes and businesses in the area.
Fire crews from Ventura County Fire Department and multiple local agencies responded to the scene, deploying air resources and ground units to contain the flames. By evening, officials reported that the fire had burned approximately 50 acres and was 30% contained, with no structures damaged and no injuries reported.
Evacuation orders remain in effect for residents along Ojai Avenue and adjacent streets, and a temporary shelter has been set up at the Ojai Valley Community Center. Authorities urge residents to avoid the area and follow official guidance as firefighting efforts continue through the night.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
