The JCF Hospital Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening rural communities within the John C. Fremont Healthcare District in Mariposa County, announced the appointment of Michael Matheson to its board of directors.
Matheson, a recent graduate of Middlebury College with a bachelor's degree in political science, brings a wealth of leadership and management experience to the foundation. His academic focus on governance, law, and policy analysis complements his practical experience as a partner at Sweetpea and Peaches and Mariposa Summit Partners, where he has managed operations, compliance, financial coordination, and growth planning.
Additionally, Matheson has a background in stakeholder engagement and constituent outreach.
Since returning to Mariposa after graduating in 2025, Matheson has become deeply involved in local organizations, including the Mariposa County Friends of the Library. Before joining the foundation board, he began serving on its events committee and quickly stepped up to lead the planning of the foundation's premier fundraising event, the Black and White Ball.
The ball is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2026, at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds, Building A. Tickets will be available soon.
Foundation President Heather Bernikoff praised Matheson's enthusiasm and leadership, noting that he immediately took the helm of the largest fundraising event of the year. Bernikoff expressed confidence in Matheson's creative ideas and his ability to contribute to the foundation's mission.
Matheson said he is honored to join the board and continue supporting the hospital through the events committee. He emphasized the vital role the foundation plays in strengthening both the community and the hospital, encouraging others to get involved by joining a committee or donating.
The JCF Hospital Foundation board also includes President Heather Bernikoff, Vice President Mike Wichmann, Secretary Jill Harry, Fundraising Committee Chair Beth Tomsick, Vending Program Coordinator Mari Bullis, Finance Committee Member Zulema Valdez, and Member-at-Large Steve Indendi. Miranda Wass serves as the foundation's executive administrator.
