Man Arrested After Woman Found Dead Near Fresno Canal; Homicide Ruled

A homicide investigation is underway in Fresno after a woman was found dead in a canal, leading to the arrest of a suspect. On Sunday, May 10, 2026, at approximately 11:45 a.m., police responded to a report of a woman in the water near the canal bank at Nielsen Avenue and Hughes Avenue.

Officers arrived and immediately removed the woman from the water, but she was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical services.

The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Georgiana McGhee of Fresno. An autopsy completed two days later by the Fresno County Coroner's Office ruled her death a homicide.

Detectives identified 48-year-old Boshay Ware as the suspect in McGhee's death. Ware has been booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges of murder and torture.

During the investigation, detectives also determined that 55-year-old Jerome Saldivar of Fresno, who had been reported as a missing person, was assaulted by Ware. Police said Saldivar's whereabouts are currently unknown and are asking the community for help locating him.
