Los Angeles Mother Kills Husband, Two Children, Then Herself; No Motive Found

Los Angeles police have found no history of domestic violence, substance abuse or other family issues concerning a woman who allegedly shot and killed her husband and two young children before committing suicide in the family’s North Hills home last month, a high-ranking LAPD official said on Tuesday, June 2. Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the May 27 apparent murder-suicide in the 16200 block of Londelius Street, but so far they have not established a motive, Assistant Chief Emada Tingirides told the Board of Police Commissioners during its meeting.

Officers were called to the home about 7:50 p.m. on a report of shots fired and found the four family members, including a 2-year-old boy and a 6-day-old girl, dead inside.

Police say they believe the mother, 30-year-old Marine Basmajian, shot and killed the children and her husband, 31-year-old Khajag Basmajian, then shot herself. A firearm was found inside the home, Tingirides said Tuesday, characterizing the shootings as a “murder-suicide involving the mother.”
