Jill Biden Feared Stroke After Trump Debate, Memoir Reveals

In a new memoir, former first lady Jill Biden reveals that she feared President Joe Biden had suffered a stroke immediately after his disastrous June 2024 debate with President Donald Trump. Doctors examined the president moments after the debate, according to Jill Biden's account in "View from the East Wing," contradicting the administration's earlier claim that the check occurred days later.

Speaking to NPR's Scott Detrow on the Newsmakers podcast, Jill Biden described the scene: "We got off the stage. I went to get my stuff.

He went with his group, and then we met up in the car, and then the doctors, you know, checked him out and said, 'Oh, he's fine.'" She called the performance "inexplicable" and said she had never seen her husband in that state before or since.

The debate, held in Atlanta, led to Biden's withdrawal from the presidential race shortly afterward. Former Vice President Kamala Harris took over the Democratic nomination but lost to Trump.

In her own memoir, "107 Days," Harris criticized the Bidens for questioning her loyalty.

Jill Biden also confirmed that her husband originally planned to serve only one term but changed his mind after strong midterm election results. She expressed regret over the hurt her family endured during the campaign and said she would not want to go through that again.
