Construction is officially underway for Gardenia Courtyards Senior Apartments, a new housing development for residents aged 62 and older in Farmersville. The project, located at the intersection of North Farmersville Road and East Kristen Street, held a groundbreaking ceremony on June 12, marking a significant step in expanding housing options for the city's aging population.
The gated community will feature 42 units, including one designated for an onsite manager. Of these, 34 are one-bedroom apartments and eight are two-bedroom units.
Residents will have access to a park, a dog park, a bocce ball area, and a covered picnic space. The rent structure is designed to accommodate individuals earning between 30% and 60% of the area's median income.
Farmersville Mayor Pro-Tem Araceli Ochoa emphasized the project's broader significance during the ceremony. "Not too long ago, we gathered to celebrate the opening of our Senior Center Resource Community Hub and Transit Center.
At that time, I said it was our responsibility to take care of our aging community. Today is another example of us following through on that commitment," Ochoa said.
She added, "It's about dignity, independence, and ensuring our seniors have a place to call home. It's also another sign of the progress we're making as a city, another groundbreaking for Farmersville."
The groundbreaking continues a busy year for Farmersville in 2026. In April, the city kicked off construction of "La Esperanza," a 101-unit affordable housing project for families.
May saw the ribbon-cutting for the Farmersville Transit Center, which now houses the Farmersville Senior Center. Earlier in January, a new 8,414-square-foot fire station opened.
The Cherry Medical Clinic is under construction on Farmersville Boulevard, and Smee Homes is set to break ground on a 230-home development on Visalia Road. Additionally, a State Foods Supermarket is in the planning stages on Farmersville Boulevard.
Tulare County Supervisor Larry Micari commented on the city's growth: "It's just amazing how the growth is going, and it's exciting to see that we're able to move forward."
