Four individuals are behind bars following a significant infrastructure theft that struck Benicia late last week.
On Friday, September 4, 2026, Benicia police officers conducting early morning patrol along Bayshore Road spotted a suspicious pickup truck with its door left open. Nearby, they discovered freshly cut fiber optic cables lying on the ground.
Upon approaching the vehicle, law enforcement detained one suspect while discovering two additional individuals attempting to hide in the adjacent brush. A fourth suspect managed to flee the initial scene but was later tracked down by California Highway Patrol air support and the Solano County Sheriff's Office on the grounds of the nearby Valero refinery property.
The four arrested men face a serious list of allegations including grand theft, larceny, vandalism, conspiracy, possession of burglary tools, and carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle. At the scene of the crime, officers recovered a firearm, drug paraphernalia, and heavy-duty cutting equipment, specifically a Sawzall used to sever the telecommunications lines.
