Berkeley Homicide Suspect Arrested in Dixon

Berkeley police have arrested a suspect in connection with the death of a 37-year-old woman found at an apartment on California Street. The victim, whose identity has not yet been released by authorities, was discovered by a property manager around noon on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 1988 California St.

Police spokesperson Officer Byron White said in an email that the woman "appears to have died after a physical assault." The suspect, Damarcus David Jones, described as the woman's boyfriend, was arrested Tuesday in Dixon, California. He is currently in custody at the Berkeley city jail.

The Alameda County Prosecutor's Office has not yet formally charged Jones, according to court records. He is scheduled for arraignment on Thursday in Oakland.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Office's Coroner's Bureau has not yet completed an autopsy. "We are grateful for the community's ongoing support and thankful we were able to swiftly bring this suspect to justice," White wrote.

The investigation is ongoing.
