Bakersfield Police Update: Bomb Threat Hostage Suspect Killed by FBI

Following the deadly shooting of the suspect involved in the bomb threat and hostage situation in downtown Bakersfield, police have provided the latest update on the incident. The shooting took place on the morning of June 3, 2026, killing the suspect.

Officials from the Federal Bureau of Investigation were involved in the shooting; Bakersfield police were not involved. All hostages are reported to be unharmed and received medical attention at the scene.

Law enforcement will remain on scene as the investigation continues, and traffic closures remain in effect.

The incident began on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, when a bomb threat was reported just after 1 p.m. near Truxtun and Chester avenues.

Several city buildings, including City Hall North, City Hall South, the Development Services Building, and Police Headquarters, were placed on lockdown. Through negotiations, two people were released from the Chase Bank building.

No injuries were reported at that time. Bakersfield Police also responded to a home in Oildale that may have been tied to the bomb threat.

The situation escalated on Wednesday morning, leading to the fatal shooting of the suspect by FBI agents. The identity of the suspect has not been released.
