In Bakersfield, Father's Day 2024 coincided with Go Skateboarding Day on June 21, prompting a special community event at Nano's Barbershop and Board Supply in downtown. The gathering drew numerous fathers and their children to the skate rink for a day of bonding and fun.

Brian Lynch attended with his son, Boyce Lynch, sharing how skateboarding has long been a meaningful activity for their family. “I love that my son likes to skateboard with me and, you know, trying to get back into it,” Brian Lynch said.

He recalled that Boyce's first birthday photos were taken at a skate park, with his son pushing around a small skateboard. Boyce added that his father has always been a steady support, especially when he felt scared of skating.

“He's been willing to stick with me through all the hardships,” Boyce said, emphasizing that skateboarding provides a special bonding opportunity.

Meanwhile, in another part of Bakersfield, families gathered at Pyrenees Café to watch World Cup soccer matches. Roger Ramirez cheered for his team surrounded by loved ones.

“With my family right here. We were watching the Spain game right now.

We're fortunately winning 4-0, so we're gonna take this one. Spain's gonna take the whole thing,” Ramirez said, expressing his joy at the victory and the family atmosphere.

The day highlighted how local families in Kern County used sports and outdoor activities to strengthen family ties on Father's Day.
