The California Federation of Women’s Clubs (CFWC) has honored the Aronos Research Club with three statewide awards at its annual conference last month in Sonora, California. The recognition makes the local club eligible for the national General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) awards, which will be presented at the GFWC International Convention this month in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The Aronos Research Club newsletter, titled Aronos Gold!, won first place in the small clubs category. Club officials thanked editor Pam Overholtzer for producing the monthly publication, which reaches over 100 homes in the community.
Outgoing club president Shelly Stewart praised Overholtzer’s dedication to keeping members and neighbors informed.
A Creativity Award for Fundraising and Development was awarded to the club for its Bunco Night event, held in memory of late member Dianne Aventi. The event competed against 816 other projects nominated by 214 clubs across California.
Elena Linehan, chair of the fundraising event, explained that the night was held on Aventi’s birthdate to honor her. Activities included heart-shaped rocks, red attire in her favorite color, and chocolates shaped like Formula One race cars, reflecting her hobbies and interests.
Proceeds from the Bunco Night benefited the Aronos Club Teacher Support Fund, which provides grants to elementary school teachers for school supplies.
Club member Sue Endter won first place in the statewide Photography Contest in the “Our World Up Close” category with a microphoto titled “Caterpillar.” Endter’s photograph first won the San Joaquin Valley District photo contest, where it competed against entries from 14 local clubs, before advancing to the state level.
These achievements mark the second consecutive year that Foothill students have claimed multiple awards in the event, highlighting the ongoing success of the Aronos Research Club in community service and creative endeavors.
