Yosemite National Park officials announced the anniversary of the Wawona Tunnel's dedication on June 10, 1933. - The 0.8-mile tunnel was blasted through solid granite from the east side of the mountain.
- It replaced a steep, narrow stage road and was the world's longest automobile tunnel at the time. - Today, it remains California's longest highway tunnel and leads to the popular Tunnel View vista.
Park officials recommend visiting Tunnel View on weekdays at sunrise or sunset to avoid crowds.
