WCCUSD May Cut 300 Jobs, Spare Some Programs

12 May 2026 16:20

The WCCUSD school board is set to vote on cutting approximately 300 positions to reduce a $127.2 million deficit. Key developments include: - About a third of positions are grant-funded and may be saved; another third are vacant.

- De Anza High's JROTC program will be preserved, and nine of 10 elementary music teaching positions may be retained. - Kennedy High School may keep 2.4 full-time equivalent positions for Pathway programs and ethnic studies.

- The board balances deficit reduction with preserving programs to prevent enrollment loss. The final decision is expected Wednesday at a public meeting.
