UC workers strike across California, including Berkeley

13 May 2026 16:25

Thousands of University of California medical and campus workers are set to strike Thursday across the state, including at UC Berkeley. The strike has no predetermined end date and involves about 42,000 workers whose contracts expired in 2024.

- Picket lines start at 8 a.m. at five medical centers and five campuses, including UC Berkeley.

- Doctors and nurses are not striking; emergency rooms remain open. - The union has filed unfair-labor complaints; UC says progress is being made.

- Service workers such as custodians, groundskeepers, and cooks will also participate. The strike could disrupt some medical services, but most centers will remain operational.
