The UC Davis EnvironMentors program pairs college mentors with high school students for yearlong STEM research projects. This year, eight students from Pioneer High School in Woodland conducted hands-on environmental science research.
Students like Anna Callens and Mudasser Ahmed explored topics such as water quality and salt tolerance in crops. Participants developed original projects with mentorship from UC Davis faculty and graduate students.
Anna Callens won first place overall at the national symposium in Panama City. The program provides valuable research skills and college preparation, with recruitment for the next cohort starting this fall.
