Two earthquakes with magnitudes over 5.0 struck early Wednesday off the Northern California coast. - A 5.7 magnitude quake hit at 3:53 a.m.

west of the California-Oregon border. - A 5.1 magnitude quake followed at 5:45 a.m.

near Eureka, Humboldt County. - A 4.5 magnitude aftershock occurred at 6:11 a.m.

in the same area. No damages have been reported, though shaking was felt in Humboldt County.

The area is tectonically active near a triple junction.
