Truckee Fire Imposes 2026 Burn Ban for Summer

16 June 2026 09:14

The Truckee Fire Protection District has implemented a regional burn ban for the 2026 wildfire season, effective June 15, due to critically dry fuel conditions and a potentially active fire season. - The ban prohibits residential campfires, bonfires, charcoal barbecues, and outdoor cooking with solid fuels like wood or lump charcoal.

- Gas devices such as gas fire pits, gas barbecues, and pellet grills are allowed, along with indoor fireplaces. - Exceptions include designated state and federal campgrounds, day-use areas with permits, and permitted special events or commercial cooking.

- The ban applies to Truckee, Tahoe, and greater Sierra Nevada communities, with additional restrictions on red flag days. Residents are encouraged to create defensible space by clearing debris.
