17 June 2026 09:32

SpaceX will attempt a rare booster landing at Vandenberg Space Force Base during its June 18 launch of NROL-179 military satellites. This is only the third land-based recovery in California in 2026.

- The Falcon 9 rocket launches from SLC-4E at 1:54 a.m. PT with a southeast trajectory.

- Booster return may cause louder sonic booms for nearby counties. - Surf Beach is closed; viewing spots available in Santa Barbara, Ventura, and San Luis Obispo counties.

- Backup launch opportunity on June 19 if needed. Residents should check for updates and prepare for possible postponements.
