The Santa Rosa Island Fire continues to burn on the eastern half of the island, with firefighters strengthening containment lines and protecting historic structures. - The fire has burned 16,942 acres and is 26% contained as of May 20.

- 135 personnel are assigned, with additional crews and equipment arriving, including a Chumash Fire Department crew. - Two historic structures were destroyed, and a mariner was rescued after writing SOS in charred brush.

- The island is closed to day and overnight use at least through this week. Weather conditions are expected to warm slightly Wednesday before cooling Thursday.
