Santa Monica Approves $6 Million Renter Aid Program to Prevent Evictions and Homelessness

01 June 2026 08:00

The Santa Monica City Council has approved a $6 million renter assistance program to prevent evictions and reduce homelessness. - The program, funded by Measure GS, offers up to $5,000 in one-time emergency aid, up to $10,000 in ongoing monthly assistance, and up to $20,000 for households in eviction proceedings.

- Eligible households earning up to 120% of the area median income (about $126,000 for a single person) can apply, with priority for those at highest risk of homelessness. - The city will partner with The People Concern to administer the program, expected to launch this summer and assist about 150 households annually.

The initiative is part of Santa Monica's 2025–2030 Homelessness Strategic Plan and builds on existing renter protections.
