Santa Cruz County updates drilling ordinance

Santa Cruz County supervisors are updating a 1986 ordinance to address new federal drilling and deep-sea mining proposals. - Updates expand Measure A to cover deep-sea mining and add research on oil spill health hazards and coastal erosion.

- The Trump administration plans to sell up to 34 drilling leases, including two off the Central Coast. - Voters will decide on the updates in the November 3 election.

The revisions aim to protect the coast from new threats.
