The Portola Firewise Community is hosting a yard waste cleanup event on Saturday, June 6, from 8 a.m. to noon to assist residents with clearing pine needles and yard debris.
Volunteers are needed to load and haul green waste to Intermountain Disposal’s facility in Delleker. The event is supported by the Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District’s free green waste month for Portola residents.
The Plumas County Fire Safe Council is providing a tool trailer, and the Rotary Club of Portola will serve lunch to volunteers. An online signup form is available for volunteers and residents needing help; only City of Portola residents may participate.
Organizers hope to create two volunteer teams: one for gathering green waste and another for hauling. Participants should bring their own gloves and PPE.
The next Portola Firewise monthly meeting is on June 4 at the Portola library.
