James Lawhead Jr. has pleaded guilty to the 1991 kidnapping and murder of Cindy Wanner in Placer County, ending a 34-year-old cold case.
The guilty plea includes special circumstance allegations of kidnapping and rape. Lawhead accepted a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
Sentencing is set for July 14, 2026.
