Orange County Library's 'Read to a Dog' Program Boosts Children's Literacy Confidence

09 June 2026 15:55

The Orange County Public Library system hosts a monthly 'Read to a Dog' event to help children improve reading skills in a supportive environment. - Therapy dogs Sophie (golden retriever), Alfie (whippet), and Lido (rough collie) visit branches including Ladera Ranch, Rancho Santa Margarita, and Aliso Viejo.

- The program reduces anxiety, improves fluency and comprehension, and builds self-esteem by offering nonjudgmental listening. - Events are free and open to the public; reservations may be required at some locations.

The initiative, run by OC Animal Allies, creates a happy space where kids can practice reading while receiving unconditional love from canine listeners.
