Oil Spill in East Los Angeles Injures 25 Birds in LA River

A construction crew ruptured a pipeline in East Los Angeles, spilling at least 2,400 gallons of crude oil into the LA River, contaminating 25 birds. - The spill occurred at East Cesar Chavez and North Eastern avenues on Friday morning.

- The pipeline operator shut off the flow within 30 minutes; the valve was near Dodger Stadium. - Oiled birds were collected by OWCN responders and taken to a care center for treatment.

- Long Beach officials reported no new oil entering the river and no impact to beaches. Cleanup and containment measures, including booms and skimming, are ongoing.
