Mira Mesa's Salk-Maddox Park Nears Completion After Years of Delays

09 June 2026 08:55

Salk-Maddox Park in Mira Mesa, originally scheduled to open in February 2024, is now less than a month from completion after years of delays. - The park includes a dog park, playground, community oval, sports field, and a sundial that had to be rebuilt three times.

- Delays were caused by lawsuits, contractor changes, supply chain issues, and copyright problems with the exercise yard design. - Construction superintendent Ron Evans said the project required changes to nearly every aspect of the original plan.

The remaining work includes installing a dog bowl fountain, fixing sod and turf, and finishing the driveway. The dog park is expected to open this summer, with the full park opening by the end of the year.
