Merced County Urges Reporting of Invasive Pests on Costco Plants

29 May 2026 09:48

Merced County officials are asking Costco members to report purchases of plants from Burchell Nursery due to the detection of the invasive Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter (GWSS). - GWSS was found on grapevines, citrus plants, and fruit trees shipped to multiple Northern and Central California counties.

- Several plants remain unaccounted for and may be in the possession of local Costco members. - Affected members should isolate plants and contact the Department of Agriculture for free inspection and disposal.

- The food supply is safe, and consumers are not at fault; the infestation originated at the nursery supplier level.
