Mendocino County Fire Safe Council Awards $122,000 for Wildfire Safety Projects

The Mendocino County Fire Safe Council (MCFSC) has completed its fifth year of Micro-Grants, awarding $122,000 to 14 local groups for wildfire safety projects. - Projects include increasing emergency water supplies, upgrading communication equipment, reducing hazardous fuels, and hosting community education events.

- In Point Arena, a new tool-lending library allows residents to check out weed wrenches to remove flammable invasive plants. - Funding came from Measure P tax dollars and a $40,000 contribution from the Mendocino County Fire Chiefs Association.

- Grants ranged from $2,000 to $12,500 and were selected based on community collaboration, risk reduction, and project impact. The initiative supports Neighborhood Fire Safe Councils, Firewise Communities, and fire agencies across the county.
