Lake Mead forecast to hit record low by 2027

17 June 2026 09:42

A new federal forecast projects Lake Mead will drop to a record low of 1,015.77 feet by July 2027, far below previous estimates. The decline is driven by historic drought and water management decisions.

- The reservoir is currently at 1,047 feet, about 29% full. - Hydropower generation at Hoover Dam is reduced below 1,035 feet.

- Southern Nevada has backup water supplies but faces long-term challenges. The forecast highlights the need for urgent action to avoid a system crash in the Colorado River basin.
