The Imperial Valley Food Bank received a 40,000-pound food donation from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, timed to coincide with the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. - The donation will help feed 1,400 families for a week.
- Assemblymember Jeff Gonzalez became emotional, noting that one in three children in the region face food insecurity. - Executive Director Sara Griffen highlighted the irony that the valley grows much of the nation's produce yet struggles to feed its own residents.
The food arrives at a critical time when children are out of school and may lack access to regular meals.
