Rosie, a Belgian Malinois rescue dog from Humboldt County, is competing in the Pet Lovers' Choice Awards for a $10,000 prize. Her owner, Kate Macnab, plans to donate the winnings to multiple animal rescues.

- Rosie was rescued on her last day before euthanasia and now works as a morale booster at the Aquadam in Scotia. - Voting for the state final round ends Saturday at 7 p.m.; if selected, Rosie will compete nationally.

- Macnab aims to support Woof Project Malinois Rescue, Redwood Pals Rescue, Humboldt County Animal Shelter, CARDA Search and Rescue, and Critters Without Litters. - Rosie's unique personality includes a Chewbacca-like growl and a fun-size candy bar demeanor.

Macnab encourages spaying, neutering, and fostering to help overcrowded shelters.
