Hampden Academy has appointed Dayne Savage as the new head coach of its boys basketball team, following the departure of legendary coach Russ Bartlett. Savage, 29, has been a freshman coach and varsity assistant under Bartlett for the past three seasons.
He is a former standout player at Caribou High School and Thomas College, and currently runs a barbershop in Bangor, which helps him connect with players. Athletic Director Jon McAllian praised Savage's energy and year-round involvement with the AAU Lumberjacks program.
Savage plans to maintain the program's hard-playing identity while implementing a faster tempo, viewing the next few years as a building process with a young roster.
