Grapevines from Costco May Carry Invasive Pest

08 June 2026 10:10

Plumas County officials warn that grapevines sold at Costco may be infested with glassy-winged sharpshooters, an invasive pest carrying Pierce's disease. - The infested vines were shipped from Burchell Nursery in Fresno County between April 21 and May 22.

- Pierce's disease clogs plant water vessels, killing grapevines within four years and affecting alfalfa, oaks, and maples. - Residents who purchased these vines should contact the Plumas County agricultural department at 530-283-6365.

The pest poses a risk to native canyon grapes and other plants in the area, though no commercial vineyards are present.
