Bay Area agriculture officials are on high alert after the glassy-winged sharpshooter, a pest that spreads Pierce's disease, was found in hundreds of grapevines sold at Costco. - The pest originated from Burchell Nursery in Fresno County and was sold at Costco stores in multiple Bay Area counties, including Contra Costa, Napa, and Marin.

- In Contra Costa County, about 200 plants were sold before detection, with remaining plants destroyed after confirming infestation. - In Napa County, 157 of 220 sold grapevines remain unaccounted for.

Residents who purchased plants since April 21 should double-bag them and contact their local agricultural commissioner.
