Five Killed in Santa Maria Single-Car Crash; Alcohol and Speed Under Investigation

A single-vehicle crash in Santa Maria early Sunday morning killed five people and left one in critical condition. The collision occurred at South Broadway and Miller Street just after 1:30 a.m.

when a car struck a traffic signal pole. - Four victims were pronounced dead at the scene; a fifth died later at the hospital.

- One person remains in critical condition at Marian Regional Medical Center. - Police suspect alcohol and excessive speed may have contributed to the crash.
