Environmentalists Rally to Protect Federal Forests from Development

09 June 2026 09:38

Environmentalists are rallying across California to oppose the Trump administration's plan to rescind the Roadless Rule, which protects 60 million acres of federal forest from roads and development. The rule, in place since 2001, has survived multiple administrations but is now under threat from Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, who argues it hinders fire management and economic development.

However, environmentalists counter that roads increase fire risk and harm wildlife. Local areas like the Trabuco Ranger District in Cleveland National Forest could be affected.

Rallies aim to raise public awareness and encourage comments on the upcoming Forest Service report.
