DOJ Probes SF, Monterey Schools Over Gender Policies

The U.S. Department of Justice has initiated a civil rights review of four California school districts over gender identity policies and parental rights.

- The review targets SFUSD and three Monterey County districts: Graves Elementary, Santa Rita Union, and Soledad Unified. - It examines parental notification and opt-out rights for lessons on sexual orientation and gender identity.

- Policies on bathroom, locker room, and sports team access based on gender identity will also be assessed. - The DOJ is checking compliance with Title IX and recent court rulings on parental rights.

No conclusions have been reached, and district officials have not yet responded.
