DOJ Probes Monterey Schools Over Gender Policies

10 June 2026 15:20

The U.S. Department of Justice has launched investigations into three Monterey County school districts over gender identity and bathroom policies.

- The DOJ is reviewing whether districts allow parents to opt children out of instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity. - Bathroom policies related to gender are also under scrutiny, with California law allowing use based on gender identity.

- Soledad Unified Superintendent Randy Banks says the district will comply and continue supporting all students. - Separately, the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk will host World Cup watch parties from June 24-28.

The investigations highlight ongoing tensions between federal and state laws on gender policies in schools.
