Clearlake Animal Association Transforms Shelter from Crisis to Community Resource

01 June 2026 13:55

The Clearlake Animal Association (CAA) took over the city's animal shelter in February 2026 after the previous operator was removed for negligence. They inherited 113 animals in a facility meant for 25, many sick.

In two months, they reduced the population by over 50% and repaired infrastructure. They also launched low-cost spay/neuter clinics, serving over 600 animals.

Recent matching donations and fundraisers support hiring a veterinarian and behaviorist. The shelter remains undecided on kill/no-kill policy but euthanizes only severe cases.
