Chico State Professor Kirk Monfort Honored for Transformative Work

Kirk Monfort, a Chico State philosophy professor, is being honored for his transformative contributions to general education and first-year student programs. He will be inducted into the Hall of Honor on May 27, 2026.

- Monfort led a major overhaul of Chico State's general education program, which served as the foundation for all undergraduate degrees for nearly two decades. - He revitalized the General Studies Thematic (GST) program, integrating freshmen through humanities classes, field trips, and community service.

- The GST program was recognized with the High Quality Learning Environments Award in 1998 and praised for preparing students for any major. - Monfort also co-founded Chico Velo and served on the Chico Planning Commission for over 15 years.

The induction ceremony will take place on May 27, 2026, at the BMU Auditorium.
