CDFW Opens Deer and Pig Hunt Permits for Merced County

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is accepting applications for limited deer and pig hunting access permits for the opening weekend of the general season in Merced County. - Permits are for August 8 and 9, 2026, in Upper and Lower Cottonwood Creek and San Luis Reservoir wildlife areas.

- Only 30 permits per day; applications must be received by 4 p.m. on June 26, 2026.

- A computerized drawing will be held on July 1, 2026, open to the public. - Applicants must have a valid 2026-27 hunting license and appropriate tags or validations.

Hunters can apply online or by mail, and up to three people may apply as a party.
