31 May 2026 14:55

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has partnered with the Almanor Fishing Association for decades to support a Fish Pen Program at Lake Almanor. - CDFW's Darrah Springs Hatchery supplies approximately 50,000 sub-catchable rainbow trout annually.

- Volunteers raise the fish in net pens directly in the lake until they reach catchable size. - The Almanor Fishing Association funds the net pens and fish feed.

- Trout are released in spring once they reach catchable size. This ongoing collaboration supports local fishing and conservation efforts at Lake Almanor.
